A gun shop worth the drive from Prior Lake
Prior Lake sits on the metro's edge, but it has never stopped being a shooting town. The Minneapolis Gun Club throws clay targets on Judicial Road, the high school fields its own trap team, and between Upper and Lower Prior Lake, Spring Lake, and Cleary Lake there is no shortage of families who spend the fall in a boat or a deer stand. The drive is easier than you might think: about 36 miles southwest, out of Scott County and into Le Sueur County farm country — Highway 13 through New Prague, then County Road 28 into Le Center, roughly 40 minutes door to door. What you get at the end of it is a certified service-disabled-veteran-owned, woman-co-owned shop with around 150 firearms on hand, access to more than 50 wholesalers, and a founder, Airborne Ranger veteran Mike Wolbrink, who runs the counter the way small-town shops used to.

From Prior Lake, plan on about 40 minutes: Highway 13 south through New Prague, then County Road 28 into Le Center. We're at 16 E Derrynane St — that's Highway 99 — with marked parking across the road, directly across from the Le Sueur County Fairgrounds. If the OPEN light is on, come on in. Hours are Tuesday–Friday 10am–5pm and Saturday 10am–3pm.
